Matt serves as CEO of our organization.

In the first decade of my career, I found that nonprofits face a litany of unique challenges that are out of their control—policy gaps, underfunding, changing political landscapes, funding drying up, etc. But there was one area in which orgs did have control: building a great team.

I quickly realized, however, that building a great team isn’t simply creating a job title—chief of people and culture, say, or education director—attaching it to a standard job description, and then plugging it in with someone whose resume closely mirrors that description. Rather, in order for people to succeed at doing the hard work of social change, they had to be in a role in which their skills and values were a match for the challenges and opportunities that come with any given organization’s unique context and culture.

In 2014, I launched RCG. I envisioned a full services talent firm that helped social sector orgs first gain crystal clarity about what their talent needs, and then helped them efficiently and effectively match talent to fit those needs. I also envisioned a firm that would continuously anticipate and adapt to a shifting talent landscape—one in which remote work and gig workers, for example, are becoming more normalized.

As RCG has grown from a one-person shop to a robust agency, we’ve followed the path we strive to lay out for clients. I’m proud that the RCG team recently crowd-sourced these as org values: kindness, flexibility, fulfillment, sustainability, impact, equity.
